This bourbon/caturra blend brings a tea-like body and bright acidity to the coffee table.
Finca El Tempixque is located near the city of Antigua in the central highlands of Sacatepéquez. Famous for its coffee history and Baroque-influenced architecture, Antigua is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. This mountainous area is rich in volcanic soil and boasts endless combinations of microclimates, elevations and varietals. In the 1960s Arturo Fall Cofiño purchased an additional 100 hectare neighboring plot of land and named it “El Tempixque” after the tempisque tree that stood at the front gate.
Bourbon, a coffee variety originating from Ethiopia via Yemen to Île Bourbon, is prized for its exceptional cup quality but has low yeld and disease susceptibility. It grows best at high altitudes (1,000m – 2,000m) in volcanic, nitrogen-rich soils, producing small, dense cherries. Caturra, a natural Bourbon mutation, is more compact, making harvesting easier on steep slopes and offers higher yelds with bright acidity and floral, fruity notes. Though more disease-resistant than Bourbon, Caturra still needs careful management to stay healthy and productive.
